Mometasone Furoate 0.1% is the active ingredient in Elocon scalp lotion. Mometasone is a medium-strength corticosteroid that decreases itching, swelling, and redness of the skin.
How does Elocon scalp lotion work?
Elocon scalp lotion contains the active ingredient mometasone furoate 0.1%, a topical corticosteroid. Mometasone is often used to reduce the inflammation of the skin.
Skin inflammation occurs because of irritation or allergic reaction that causes the release of various substances in the skin, resulting in the widening of the blood vessels that cause irritation, swelling, reddening, and itch of the skin.
Mometasone acts within skin cells to stop the release of the inflammatory substances, which, in turn, reduce the redness, swelling, and itching to prevent scratching that further irritates the skin.
What are the benefits of using Elocon scalp lotion?
The main benefit of using Elocon scalp lotion is the reduction of the redness, swelling, itching of the skin.
Apply a few drops to the affected area of the scalp and gently massage until the lotion disappears.
You should try to apply Elocon at the same time each day, but if you forget and miss that time on a given day, just apply it as soon as you can and then apply it at that time the following day.
Elocon can in rare cases cause any of the following side effects:
